Litanies to the Divine Child Jesus

Before knowing some prayers of the Divine Child Jesus , it is important to know that these prayers have a very relevant spiritual content for Catholic Christianity. In addition, the use of litanies is not something exclusive to our religion, since it is also used by other religious currents such as Orthodox Christianity, Judaism, etc. Even so, it is usually Catholics who make use of this type of prayer more frequently.

As for their origin, they arise from Jewish worship and there is a wide variety of them depending on the type of request you want to make, whether it is for health, love, etc. They are also used when making processions and Catholic religious services, although the most common is that they are used by the person who wishes to ask the child God for a favor. For many, the litanies are considered a form of repetitive supplication, which arose with the beginnings of Christianity. Although at that time they were known by the name of Kyrie and it is considered the original form of the litanies. Its use spread to the regions of Asia and Rome to this day.

On a historical level, the Kyrie were considered religious prayers after the Vaison council that took place in 526 AD by means of a decree that mentions approximately the following message: The beautiful custom that all the provinces of the east of Italy, where the Kyrie Eleison is sung with great enthusiasm, effect and compulsion at mass, matins and vespers. Where such a pleasant and sweet song that is pronounced every day and night will never produce fatigue or disgust.

Over the years, many litanies have been created with different purposes (many of them aimed at asking for the same request), so that today it is virtually impossible to group them all in a single article. Especially here in Latin America where its use is widely accepted and is used more frequently than in other parts of the world.

It is also important to note that many of the prayers can be expanded based on the person’s need and what they wish to ask for. By this we mean that there is no single way to pray, to say prayers. Each person and each congregation can devise a method that is to their liking and with which they feel comfortable. Again, the important thing is not only to make the prayer and the request, but the faith that we put in our prayers, always having the conviction and passion that our prayers will be heard by the child god.

These litanies can be considered as a repetition of prayers that end up becoming requests, it is advisable to do them calmly, taking your time so that the prayer reaches the depths of your heart and soul.

It is recommended to make a reflection after doing the litany and accompany it with an Our Father or an Ave Maria.

Litany and Rosary to Raise the Divine Child God

This modality of prayer is somewhat different from the one we saw before, the prayer is still addressed to the child God and is still done with the intention of making a request, the variant is that the prayer is accompanied by a rosary that is made at the beginning At the end. The steps to do it correctly would be: make the rosary, pray the litany, make another rosary again and finish with the carol song. It is more laborious, but it is a more devoted way of making our request.

The use of these litanies is made more frequently in Latin American countries, on the other hand; they usually contain a greater spiritual, cultural and religious burden for the people who carry them out. There are some celebrations that are based on this structure to pray. For example: in Venezuela an activity called the “Paradura del Niño” is carried out, in Colombia we can find a variant known as “Lifting of the Child God”. Both traditions are very similar and beautiful, in addition to having a large number of followers. The dynamics of each celebration consists of carrying a manger (which can be located in a house, a chapel, a church, etc.), then the child god is taken and a tour of the place is made (generally visiting nearby houses) in order to bless each of the homes. During the walk different litanies are made and at the end of the celebration different songs, Christmas carols or bonuses are performed.

These traditions are usually celebrated as a closing or conclusion of the Christmas festivities on the date of February 2. In any case, we can find different variants of these festivities depending on the place where it takes place. So that you have a clearer idea of how this celebration should be done, here is an example of the steps to follow:

  • The first thing that is done when everyone is gathered is the recitation of a rosary.
  • Then they are accompanied by the mysterious joyous. Which are:
    • The lost and found Child in the temple.
    • The birth of the son of God.
    • The visit of the virgin to her cousin Santa Isabel.
    • The incarnation.
    • The purification of the Virgin

Now proceed to perform the following litany:

« Lord have mercy on us, Christ have mercy on us. Lord have mercy on us, Christ hear us, Christ hear us (this fragment must be repeated again).

Heavenly Father who are God, have mercy on us. God son redeemer of the world, have mercy on us. God Holy Spirit, have mercy on us. Holy Trinity, you are one God, have mercy on us. Holy Mary, pray for us. Mother of the Redeemer, pray for us. José’s wife, she prays for us (depending on the region, a pause is made at this point and a Christmas carol or bonus is sung, at the end the prayer is continued).

Heavenly inspiration, pray for us. Sun of truth, pray for us. Patriarch of justice, pray for us. Deposit of kindness, pray for us. After faith, pray for us. Ark of happiness, pray for us. God incarnate, beginning and end of things, pray for us « .

  • Once the litany is finished, it continues with a short prayer dedicated to the divine child Jesus. It should be noted that it is not mandatory to use the one that we will place below, you can use any of your preference as long as it is dedicated to the child God:

« Oh divine Jesus, who filling heaven and earth with your glory, wanted to walk unknown and hide your greatness in your humble stable, make my senses and powers of body and soul praise you and live grateful to your love, with which you you deigned to become a man to save me, miserable and unworthy creature. Reviva my mother, in me the love for your divine son so that he always hosts my good Jesus in my heart. Amen « .

Now we continue with some songs focused on the manger. Mainly in the birth of the baby Jesus and the star of Bethlehem. Here are some well-known chants that you can use:

    • Silent Nights :

« Night of peace, night of love, everyone sleeps around, among the stars that spread their light, they come announcing the baby Jesus, the star of peace shines, the star of love shines.

Nights of peace, night of light, the baby Jesus has been born, Little Shepherds who hear announce, do not fear when you enter to adore, that love has been born, that love has been born.

From the manger of the baby Jesus, the whole earth is filled with light, because the baby Jesus was born, among love songs « .

    • The Drummer :

« The path that leads to Bethlehem goes down to the valley that the snow covered, the little shepherds want to see their King, they bring him gifts in their humble bag, Rompompompom… The child God was born in a doorway in Bethlehem.

I would like to place at your feet a present that pleases you, Lord. But you already know that I am poor too and I only have an old drum, Rompompompom… In your honor, in front of the portal I will play with my drum.

I am marking the road that leads to Bethlehem with my old drum, there is nothing better that I can offer you, its hoarse accent is a love song. Rompompompom… When God saw me playing before him, he smiled at me « .

    • Let’s go to Bethlehem :

« Bell over bell and over bell one, look out the window, you will see the child in the cradle.

Bethlehem, bells of Bethlehem, which the angels ring, what news do you bring me?

Gathered your flock, where are you going, little shepherd? I’m going to take cottage cheese, butter and wine to the portal.

Bethlehem, bells of Bethlehem, which the angels ring, what news do you bring me?

Bell over bell and over bell two, lean out the window, because God is being born.

Bethlehem, bells of Bethlehem, which the angels ring, what news do you bring me?

Walking at midnight, where do you walk, shepherd? I take the child that is born, like God my heart.

Bethlehem, bells of Bethlehem, which the angels ring, what news do you bring me?

Bell over bell and over bell one, look out the window, you will see the child in the cradle.

Bethlehem, bells of Bethlehem, which the angels ring, what news do you bring me?

Gathered your flock, where are you going, little shepherd? I’m going to take Ricotta, butter and wine to the portal.

Bethlehem, bells of Bethlehem, which the angels ring, what news do you bring me? «

    • Come on shepherds, come on :

« Come on, shepherds, come on. Let’s go to Bethlehem, to see that child. The glory of Eden, to see in that child, The glory of Eden.

That precious boy! I’m dying for him, I love his little eyes, his little mouth too, his father caresses him. The mother looks at him, and the two, ecstatic, contemplate that being. They contemplate that being.

Let’s go shepherds, let’s go, let’s go to Bethlehem. To see in that child, the glory of Eden, to see in that child, the glory of Eden.

The little boy is so cute, that he can never be, that his beauty copies, the pencil and the brush; for the eternal father, with immense power, made the Son to be, exalted like him. Excelent like him.

Let’s go shepherds, let’s go, let’s go to Bethlehem, to see in that child, the glory of Eden, to see in that child, the glory of Eden « .

  • Finally, we approach the manger and reveal the figure of the baby Jesus. Then he gets up and puts himself in the sight of those present so that everyone can admire and applaud the Christ child with joy.

Although this is the general scheme, depending on the area and culture where it is carried out, we can find some modifications typical of the region. In any case, the root of the tradition comes from very old times and there are many peoples that have been incorporating these prayers into their festivities. As for the opinion of the church on these litanies, they have never disagreed with it, since they consider that they come from the Christian people. Even so, they have always been very cautious when participating in these celebrations, being careful with the way it is developed and the content it has to avoid going outside the Catholic canons.
