The 7 gifts of the holy spirit, what are they? and its fruits

The 7 gifts of the holy spirit , are a series of moral virtues that are established as tools to lead a life full of peace and well-being, in this article you will be able to know each one of them.

The 7 gifts of the holy spirit

Established a few years ago, these 7 virtues are related to the conduct and behavior that every Catholic should have in their life, they are considered a mandate from Jesus for all human beings in good faith, whoever receives it becomes a docile and kind person who brings to others the inspirations of God himself.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church describes these 7 virtues as follows:

“The moral life of Christians is sustained by the gifts of the Holy Spirit. These are permanent dispositions that make man docile to follow the impulses of the Holy Spirit”.

So according to this criterion the gifts of the Holy Spirit are seven:

  • Fear of God.
  • Fortress.
  • Wisdom.
  • Science.
  • Understanding.
  • Advice.
  • Piety

With them we seek to create the foundations of the moral life of man and especially that of Christians, who must be open to the benefits of the creator, let’s see then the spiritual meaning of each of the 7 gifts.

Fear of God

The fear of God is one of the 7 gifts where fear is actually presented in different terms than how the human being represents fear, God should not be feared as a being that will destroy or harm us, the fear of God is expressed in terms of avoiding situations that can lead us to sin.

Therefore, avoid the presence of all evil, which can create the displeasure of the Holy Spirit, which represents disrespect for the figure of the creator. Fearing God implies respect and submission to his will, trying to avoid anything unpleasant, which clearly any human being knows.

Jesus said: “The spirit of Yahveh will rest on him: the spirit of wisdom and intelligence, the spirit of counsel and strength, the spirit of knowledge and fear of Yahveh”

It means then that the fear of God is simply one of the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit that make us reflect on how small we are before God. By throwing away we are exposed to the abandonment of the goodness of the Father, who loves us very much.

Fortress

This do has the power to give humans the ability to give encouragement every day, it gives the tools to overcome the adversities of each day, it turns each person into a courageous being with perseverance and firmness to make decisions.

Whoever possesses this gift is not daunted by anything, does not fear threats, persecutions, since he fully trusts in the goodness of God, the Bible says the following regarding strength:

“Do not be afraid of what you are going to suffer: the Devil is going to put some of you in prison so that you may be tempted, and you will suffer a tribulation of ten days. Stay faithful until death and I will give you the crown of life” (Revelation).

Intelligence

The granting of understanding what benefits or harms each one to carry out God’s project, respects intelligence and wisdom as one of the 7 gifts of the holy spirit, helps to show charity that represents the basis to prepare the way towards true vision and eternal life with God.

Jesus said, “But when they hand you over, don’t worry about how or what you are going to say. What you have to speak will be communicated to you at that time. For it will not be you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who will speak in you” (Matthew 10, 19-20).

Wisdom and intelligence promote the taste and richness that divine faith contains, it promotes the fruit of knowledge and experience, wisdom represents the grace that allows us to observe things as they are through the gaze of God, that is why the King Solomon at the time of his coronation only what he asked for was wisdom and intelligence.

Science.

This gift is seen from a divine way, it is given to man to appreciate the beauty of the universal creation, seen spiritually and in detail in a way where each creation of God is part of his goodness and his love towards the world, so that the man considers everything made by God to be good.

The aesthetics of nature, the physical perfection of the systems that allow human and plant life, are processes created by God that must be admired and respected, the gift of science allows God’s thoughts to be revealed to the Holy Spirit, the Bible says :

“No one knows the secret of God, except the Spirit of God” (Corinthians 2, 11).

Science helps us to judge everything done by the creator with rectitude and objectivity, it allows us to appreciate the goodness and open the heart of each person, so that appreciating everything created by him does not bring us closer to his grace.

Understanding

It is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit that allows us to give us the light to observe more clearly the riches of faith, it is closely linked to it, if the Holy Spirit is in our hearts, it allows us to illuminate the mind, allowing us to grow every day. more and more like human beings, full of goodness.

Learning the message that Jesus Christ left us is part of how understanding is established as one of the 7 gifts of the Holy Spirit, so that if we get involved with the gospel through understanding we can understand the word of God and establish it as a way of life.

This divine gift allows us to accept the truth that God reveals to us every day, incomprehensible to those who are far from the creator. In Jeremiah 14, 7, he describes something interesting:

“I will give them a heart to know me, for I am Yahweh” (Jer 24,7).

Advice

With this element, one learns to love God, who points out to us the path of holiness and the way to appreciate our own life every morning, through the way we shelter ourselves in our own hearts, the Holy Spirit sensitizes each one and orient your thoughts so that your intentions towards the creator are established in your heart.

The advice is a way of leading us towards Jesus, so that he serves as a model in our daily work, always seeking a relationship with God. This gift helps the person to establish and decide which path and option he should take, it allows him to guide and listen to the options presented by the light of the Holy Spirit, in the Bible it is easily explained:

“He will not judge by appearances, nor hearsay. He will judge the weak with justice, and they will sentence with righteousness the poor of the earth ”(Isaiah 11, 3-4).

Piety

Piety gives us the confidence to treat God with all the love possible as a son would treat his father, it does not respect compassion as many believe, but it manifests the real bond with the supreme being.

It allows us to link our whole life firmly to be able to commune with God, regardless of the difficulties we have to face, this spiritual tool always keeps the door open to God’s will.
